La Liga Club Review: Atletico Madrid

Recap
Atletico Madrid was a total standout and a certified stunner in the 2013/2014 season. The squad was already making history when they stole the Copa del Rey trophy against Real Madrid in 2012/2013. Yet, speculations of its impending downfall emerged when the talismanic striker, Radamel Falcao signed for the lavish French outfit, AS Monaco.
Despite threats of a broken dream, Diego Simeone or more fondly called as Cholo, rose to the occasion. Falcao left, but another Diego—Diego Costa became a perfect an indispensible replacement. Another Diego showed a stellar performance and this is no other than Diego Godin, who netted the winning goal against Barcelona and therefore, handed them the La Liga title.
But it was not only the Diegos of Atletico Madrid who helped the team catapult into greatness. David Villa, Raul Garcia, Koke, Gabi, Tiago and Javier Manquillo, to name a few, contributed to the team’s unprecedented rise.
Overall, Atletico Madrid’s evident success can be attributed to its superb collective effort Not only did they destroyed the dynasties that Barcelona and Real Madrid set, they also proved that they are far from being a pushover in bigger competitions, such as the Champions League, where they finished as runner-up.
Match to remember
Atletico Madrid’s last match against Barcelona epitomizes the squad’s determination to bring home the silverware.
