Inter were four spots up from the previous Seria A season, denoting an overall improvement in form, management, defense, and attack. The side ranked fifth last season after earning 60 points from 15 victories and 15 draws. They also netted a total of 62 goals and conceded 39 for a goal difference of +23—the fourth highest among all clubs. Their campaign was excellent and although they did not win the title, at least they secured seeding in the Europa League play-off round.
During the summer transfer window, only three new players were signed while 25 moved out. Luca Tremolada officially became part of Inter on 02 July 2013 and Ishak Belfodil of Parma followed him shortly a few days later. Sampodria’s Mauro Icardi joined Walter Mazzarri’s squad on 09 July 2013, becoming the last player to complete the ensemble. Among those who transferred to or loaned by other teams were Matteo Bianchetti to Verona, Luca Caldirola to Werder Bremen, Simone Pasa to Varese, and Jacopo Galimberti to Monza.
Nerazzurri entered the season as one of the strongest contenders for the title, winning online betting activities over for many of their matches in the league. They posted undefeated record in the competition’s first six fixtures, earning a total of 15 points from four victories and two draws—a streak substantial enough to put them in the table’s top four. They suffered their first defeat of the season on their October 2013 opener after Roma thumped them on a three-goal clean sheet. This however, was later followed by eight straight weeks of unbeaten results.
Inter were among the most consistent sides in the entire tilt. On some match weeks, they ranked higher than 18 other clubs and fell outside the top five only twice. The team also produced one of the tournament’s best scorers in the guise of Argentine striker Rodrigo Palacio who netted 17 top-tier goals to rank him fourth (tied with Udinese’s Antonio Di Natale and Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain) overall in the league. Ricky Alvarez, meanwhile, delivered the most passes (eight) for Inter’s goals.
