In the past Ligue 1 season, Montpellier produced the fewest number of victories among all those who avoided relegation. They were, however, not ranked at the margins of the bottom three as they managed to earn plenty of points from their stalemates. They finished the nine-month tournament in the 15th place, having scored 42 points overall. Their form was significantly dominated by draws, which far outnumbered both their triumphs and defeats.

Throughout the competition, La Paillade barely breached the top half of the league table. They once ranked ninth but that never happened again. At the start of the season, they placed 12th after only drawing with eventual winners and perennial online betting top dogs PSG 1-1. While they never landed in the danger spots, they often ranked in the lowest third of the tally. Pressure was high all season through and the players nearly lost inspiration and energy towards Ligue 1’s closing.

One of Rolland Courbis’ men’s most notable wins in the league was the one against Lyon on October 2013, when they thrashed their rivals by netting five goals and conceding only one. They also earned clean sheets a few times against other opponents, such as Socahux and Ajaccio. Their worst defeat came in their final Ligue 1 fixture, against their curtain raiser foes PSG who inflicted them with a 4-0 defeat—a disappointing result that capped their already-embarrassing finishes in their two penultimate matches.

Despite a generally mediocre performance highlighted by a negative goal difference, Montpellier still managed to produce one of the season’s overall top scorers. Remy Cabella—who will play next season for the English side Newcastle United—netted 14 times in 37 appearances, which made him the eighth (tied with Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis) best scorer overall.
