Ligue 1 Round-Up (Week 11): Undefeated PSG Goes Up Whilst Proud Marseille Stumbles

Week highlights

Paris Saint Germain (PSG) continues to pressure Marseille in the title race as it clinched another crucial victory last week. Meanwhile, AS Monaco has also jumped into the bandwagon after snatching three (3) important points whilst Lille and Guingamp suffered a terrible slip in France’s top-flight league.

The stars are already favoring PSG after its lackluster start this season. Just recently, the squad clinched a 3-0 win over Bordeaux to cut down Marseille’s lead to four (4) points and thus, imposed its right for this season’s title.

PSG’s victory last week was a memorable one considering the fact that some of its key players are sidelined. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still nursing an injury, whilst Edinson Cavani was serving a match ban after receiving a booking due to his controversial “sniper celebration.” With the said win, PSG was able to maintain an unbeaten run in its 11 appearances.

Ligue 1 - Week 11 recap

AS Monaco shares a similar experience to PSG in terms of having a poor start this season. The squad almost hit rock bottom due to its successive losses, which are allegedly attributed to the transfer of James Rodriguez and loan of Radamel Falcao. Yet, with their current win, which catapulted the squad’s rank to the 8th spot, it seems that a bright future lies ahead of Monaco.

In the meantime, the current league leader, Marseill experienced a narrow defeat to Lyon. Hubert Fournier and his men were able to net a goal during the 2nd half. With the said win, the squad propelled its rank to the 3rd spot.

Lastly, many were disappointed when Lille suffered its 3rd consecutive loss. The online betting favorite has been  experiencing some struggles and challenges lately that it dropped out of the league’s top 10.

Scene-stealers

Lyon’s Yoan Gourcuff readily stole the limelight last week. Gourcuff was the man behind the goal that destroyed Marseille last week. Likewise, Ezequiel Lavezzi’s 81st minute goal was also worthy of praise and recognition. Fifteen (15) minutes after he substituted for Lucas Moura, who already put PSG ahead by two (2) points, Lavezzi created further damage when he netted the club’s 3rd goal.

The blunders

Marseille put up a good fight, but still its loss was unbearable. The same thing holds true for Guingamp, which already hit the rock bottom part of Ligue 1’s table.

What to expect

With the momentum lingering on their side, one should only expect a stronger and better performance from PSG.
