Greek side Olympiacos and Italian club AC Milan flew to North America for a chance to bag the International Championship Cup, a friendly competition sponsored by Guinness featuring eight major teams from Europe. The tournament is in its second edition under the new branding and will feature matches to be held in the US and Canada. The defending champions are the Spanish club Real Madrid.
Olympiacos
This will be Olympiacos’ first appearance in the tilt, although they are not necessarily new to international friendly competitions of this kind. As for the Greek top-tier league, the side ended their season as chmapions—their 41st championship title. Thrylos had a quite impressive continental campaign from the last season, accentuated by their 2-0 victory over English powerhouse Manchester United in one of their Champions League matches. They also won against Portuguese giant Benfica from the same competition 1-0. However, the club’s recent streaks have so far not been agreebale. They lost thrice and won only once in their five most recent matches in all competitions including friendlies.
AC Milan
Milan will enter the competition for a second consecutive year. In 2013, they finished third behind runners up Chelsea and winners Real Madrid. They won against Valencia in Round 1 but lost to Chelsea in Round 2. Domestically, the Italian side only finished eighth in Serie A, scoring 57 points from 38 matches—45 points behind champions Juventus but tied with sixth placers Torino. The result has therefore prevented them from joining UEFA’s two most prestigious competitions for the next season. The past football term was generally and relatively weak for Rossoneri, considering their massive successes in the previous few years. Internationally, they were eliminated in the Round of 16 by eventual victors Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. They were, however, very successful in their two most recent friendly matches.
Online betting tip: AC Milan and Olympiacos have never met in a previous competition, but the Serie A strength inherent to the former will help them win all the spoils against the latter.
