Champions League Prediction: BATE Borisov vs. Shakthar Donetsk

BATE Borisov

Match Date: 21 October 2014 (local time)

Venue: Borisov Arena

BATE Borisov will draw tons of inspiration from its narrow win against Athletic Bilbao to secure yet another important victory at home. Pitted against the online betting favorite, Shakthar Donetsk, Borisov is keen on increasing its lead in the league table and head towards the latter stage of the tournament.

The contenders

BATE Borisov

BATE will most likely exploit its home court advantage as it goes against Shakhtar Donetsk. The club plays the strongest at home. It has remained unbeaten since its 1-0 loss to FC Torpedo Zhodino last 29 September 2013.

Back in the Champions League, it made a fine recovery from the 6-0 loss to Porto via nailing a 1-0 win against Athletic Bilbao. There is s a strong possibility for them to manifest the same degree of intensity and aggressiveness when they face their visitor.

Unfortunately, BATE will be playing without Egor Filipenko due to a thigh injury.

Shakthar Donetsk

Shakthar Donetsk stands as the heavy favorite of sports betting sites such as 12BET. However, its chances of winning cannot be guaranteed due to its not-so impressive performance in the Champions League.

The Miners have been contained in a stalemate in its last two (2) Champions League matches. This leaves them trailing BATE with a single point and their upcoming match leaves them in a compromising situation since they have only once in their six (6) European away games.

The squad will also miss the presence of Serhiy Kryvtsov, who will be sidelined for 6 weeks due to an ankle injury.

Possible head turner

Expect Nikolai Signevich to call the shots for BATE, just like what he did during the Athletic Bilbao clash. He needs to be more clinical though so as not to wast6e their scoring opportunities.
