French players are currently leading the Group table in the World Cup, which means that they have a great chance of advancing through the higher stages of the tournament—enough reason to excite online bookies and supporters alike. Alongside this early success, the domestic league must start preparing for the opening of the new season. There is much to be happy about with the latest developments in Ligue 1. A few of which are as follows:

  • Guingamp arrived with a quick but careful decision with just a few days before the transfer window closes. The side now have Ronnie Schwartz, Lars Jacobsen, Maxime Baca, and Jonas Lossl in the slate. However, they will have to bid adieu to Jonathan Martins Pereira and Fatih Atik for their contracts are already expiring.
  • As expected, last season’s 16-goal top scorer Vincent Aboubakar is leaving Lorient. In his stead, the side offered a five-year deal to 22-year-old striker Benjamin Jeannot. The club have also signed Algerian striker Walid Mesloub from Le Havre.
  • For Marseille, spending too much for transfers may no longer be necessary. The team have plenty of excellent loan players returning, including Morgan Amalfitano and Jordan Ayew.
  • Newly promoted clubs Caen and Metz will look to strengthen their grip in Ligue 1. The former have acquired Remy Vercoutre from Lyon while the latter have sought the services of defenders Jonathan Rivierez and Jose Luis Palomino, as well as striker Juan Manuel Falcon.
  • Defending champions PSG have brought in one major signing. Former Chelsea defender David Luiz will be joining Laurent Blanc’s team for a record-breaking £50m.
