Match Date: 02 August2013 (local time)

Venue: Stade Vélodrome

AS Monaco and Olympique de Marseille shall have a fierce encounter as both clubs compete for the top spot in France’s top-flight league.

AS Monaco

Newly promoted AS Monaco lives up to the expectations of many. So far, its huge spending on big names such as Eric Abidal, Joao Moutinho and of course, Radamel Falcao is paying off.

The club currently occupies the 2nd spot in the table and even performed better than incumbent league champions, Paris Saint Germain. To note, ASM won twice and forced a draw against Toulousse.

Adding more depth to its current line-up, ASM secured the signature of Sevilla’s midfielder, Geoffrey Kondogbia. Likewise, the squad denied stories that El Tigre is up for another move. Reports said that Falcao is one of Chelsea’s head honcho, Jose Mourinho’s target. This is after negotiations with Manchester United, Wayne Rooney, broke down. With El Tigre staying, spectators are hoping for more goals from the world-class striker. Likewise, there have been expectations of James Rodriguez debuting in the upcoming match against Marseille. Joao Moutinho, who was initially sidelined due to an injury is also expected to be in the starting XI. However, Moutinho’s appearance is yet to be confirmed.

Olympique de Marseille

L’OM is now under the spotlight after clinching its nerve-wrecking 1-0 victory over Valenciennes. So far, this is the only club that remained undefeated in all of its matches. But their consistency in form shall be put to the test when they go against AS Monaco. This is most especially true that Gilbert Imbula may be sidelined due to ankle injury sustained during the Evian match.

Online betting tip: Marseille and Monaco face-off ends in a draw

Although Marseille won 5 out of its  6 home matches, this does not mean that Monaco will easily throw in the white towel.

Despite missing Moutinho, the club has managed to secure their victories due to its consistent starting XI. The same thing can be expected from Marseille who will not see Imbula perform some action in the pitch.
It is also important to note that during the clubs’ last 6 matches, neither Marseille nor Monaco dominated. Two (2) of the matches ended in a draw, while Marseille won the other 2. The remaining 2 matches saw Monaco having the upper-hand.

Expect the match to be fueled with tons of actions, creativity and skill.
