Match Date: 31 August 2013 (local time)

Pochettino is determined to make Southampton a top contender in the Premier League. Recently, the club expressed its intention to sign Pablo Piatti, adding more depth to its current line-up.

Norwich

Norwich looks promising after thrashing Bury in the Capital One Cup challenge. The Canaries snatched a 6-3 victory over Bury and if the club sustains their momentum, they might secure their first win in the Premier League.
The Canaries are in dire need of a victory, there is no doubt about that. Their first 2 matches in the new season flopped and unless some action is done, they might find themselves struggling in the relegation zone.

Their first match saw them forced a draw against Everton. The result can be forgiven. It is better to have a draw than to crumble. However, what is disappointing is how the club easily succumbed to the 10-man team, Hull.

A penalty kick saved Hull and throughout the match, Norwich had several scoring opportunities, but Hull constantly denied them.

Against Southampton, the club can no longer afford to have such performance. This early, Norwich needs to step up. It is never an easy feat, but they cannot relax while playing against one of the league’s top performing squad.

Southampton

The Saints currently occupies the 6th spot of the table. They started strong after winning against West Bromwich Albion and earning a draw with Sunderland.

But while such performance cannot be ignored, the club seems to struggle in scoring. The results of its last 2 matches manifest its strong need to collect more points. Fortunately, the Saints have been performing well in the transfer market. Their arrival in St. Mary are one of the club’s key weapons in clinching a victory against Norwich.

Online betting tip: Southampton to win by 2 goals

Mauricio Pochettino lives up to the expectations of transforming Southampton into an elite club.

Aware of the club’s seemingly limited scoring options, Pochettino secured the signature of striker, Pablo Osvaldo. Such move gives Pochettino more materials to work on instead of overly depending on Rickie Lambert.

Majority of Norwich and Southampton’s encounters resulted in a draw. Pochettino knows that this is a high possibility since their upcoming match will be played in Norwich’s territory. Seeing Osvaldo and Lambert play together, is very likely to happen. Or they could be alternately striking crucial goals on the pitch.

Dejan Loveren and Vincent Wanyama, who made quite an impression during the West Bromwich Albion match may also grace the club’s starting XI. Or better yet, the squad can expect to see winger Pablo Piatti should the deal push through.

In response to the Saints’ starting XI, the Canaries might go for Johan Elamander. The striker scored twice during the Bury encounter and if he sustains the momentum, he can be potent counter against Osvaldo and Lambert’s attacks.

Since Elliott Benett is injured, Atalanta’s James Troisi can replace him, provided that Chris Hughton secures his signature immediately.

Although Norwich’s current line-up is readily capable of facing Southampton, the latter’s likelihood of winning can be attributed to the fact that they have already beaten Norwich in the past. So far, the best that Norwich can come up against Southampton is a draw.
Definitely, Southampton remains as heavy favorites. Yet, expect the encounter to be a hard-fought battle.
