English Premier League Round-Up (Week 9): Chelsea And United Settle For Draw; City Destroyed

Week highlights

Mistakes and bad decisions were the dominant atmosphere in the Premier League last week. Certain squads unexpectedly fell, but there are others, which showed that everything is possible in football.

To begin with, the anticipated clash between two of the most respected managers in the league, Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal resulted in a stalemate.

Neither of these managers were readily satisfied with the result, considering the interests that they have to protect. For Chelsea, it meant lowering their lead to four (4) points. As for Machester United, the three (3) points could have propelled them to the league’s elite—to a spot that they have once dominated.

Chelsea and United were not alone in their (misery). A strong title contender and online betting favorite, Manchester City fell on its knees when they went against West Ham United. The Hammers pounded them with two (2) goals whilst they could only respond with one (1).

Relegation prone Queen parks Rangers were also one of last week’s biggest winners after outlasting Aston Villa.

Scene-stealers

Chelsea’s Didier Drogba showed that he is still, Mourinho’s trusted striker after converting a penalty and snatching the lead for his team. Yet, Drogba is not alone in catching the attention of many; Robin van Persie’s late equalizer was also among the scene-stealers last week.

But if there is anyone who really stole the spotlight, this is no other than West Ham’s head honcho, Sam Allardyce. The win against Chelsea was an impressive manifestation of his tactical acumen. Great job, big Sam!

The blunders

City’s defeat was of course, very disappointing since it has affected its title quest. But aside from City, Villa’s 5th consecutive loss was also frustrating. The squad was unable to maintain its strong start and is currently on the verge of hitting the relegation zone.

What to expect

City will definitely make a grand comeback in the coming gaming week. Manuel Pellegrini has survived such situation last season and there is no doubt that he will overcome this one too.
